Health Communication Campaign

I collaborated with a team of three to design a health campaign encouraging JMU students to opt for self-care instead of overusing the JMU Health Center. Our campaign was theory-based and strategic towards our target audience. We designed an app wireframe, a print ad, a radio PSA script, a press release, a logo and slogan, and other campaign materials for our self-care campaign.

Research Brief Radio Transcript

I researched, wrote, and recorded a research brief and translated it into a podcast about the mental health stigma in Amish culture, and how health communicators can work with the Amish to provide care that is both culturally appropriate and accommodative.

Theoretical Frameworks and Campaigns

I compared several communication theories, such as Social Cognitive Theory, Theory of Reasoned Action, and Extended Parallel Process Model to explore how these theoretical frameworks can influence health campaign effectiveness from the target audience of college students through self-efficacy, norms, and threats. I analyzed multiple articles to concisely state the pros and cons of using each theory in health campaigns.

Writing in the Community

I wrote a sixteen page report on the evolving idea of a "good girl" from the 1930s to today. This pieces showcases my research skills, as I searched through antiquated etiquette manuals for young women, while organizing my findings and forming an opinion on what I found.

Contemporary Rhetorical Theory - Public Marginalia

I researched the types of public marginalia commonly found in Richmond, Virginia, and how Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)'s definition of graffiti and university policy regarding graffiti affects Richmond's underground art scene. Once again, this piece highlights my research skills, since I interviewed a Richmond graffiti artist, a JMU art professor, and a VCU art professor.

Communication Theory - Artifact Analysis

I analyzed a photograph of Thylane Loubry Blondeau, a ten-year-old French supermodel, from her spread in Vogue Paris, using the semiotics and cultural studies communication theories. This piece demonstrates my analytical knowledge of communication patterns, and interpret deeper meanings and motivations.
