Client Training Guide

After managing the build of a new client resource that examined which organizations are currently conducting business in Iran, I wrote a training guide for the client. In this guide, I explained the resource's goal, as well as how to add and edit entries. I used screenshots to help visualize the content.

A/B Testing and Google Ads Optimization Proposal

Since a website is never truly "done," I collaborated with two of my coworkers to create a client proposal sent weeks after the client's redesigned website launched. In this proposal, we discussed ways to capitalize on the new site to increase traffic, engagement, grow the email list, and boost donations. Our two main tactics included (1) refocusing attention on the client's Google Ads account, making the best use of their Google Grant and (2) A/B testing the email signup and donation pages.

Website Redesign Case Study

After managing sections of a client's healthcare organization's website redesign, I wrote a case study highlighting the project process and improvements made to the website. Items discussed include the discovery process, website organization, content improvements for admin, and email signups.

Summarized Studies

Based on the extensive study The Likely Effects on Competition Resulting from AETNA, Inc.’s Acquisition of Humana, Inc.I wrote a 2 page summary of the study and designed a visual to display the information the study described. The words used in the study were highly technical health insurance terms, so I researched what the words meant and wrote it so the average person who knows very little about health insurance (like me) can understand it. By breaking down an almost 40 page document to 2 pages, I learned how to pick important information out of a long document while also learning how to understand and breakdown the language in a highly technical document.

Revised "Obtaining Public Documents" Webpage

I redesigned and rewrote 2 pages on the State Corporation Commission website. I found the original website page did not clearly state the information users looked for immediately, such as contact information and prices. There was also internal technical information at the very top of the page that could be made into hyperlinks and placed at the bottom of the page. This experience made me think about the target audience, the public that needed public documents printed, and what information directly pertained to their needs.

Obtaining Public Documents

Press Release

I was given the opportunity to write a press release when Columbia Gas requested to increase its rates and revise its conditions. The public needed to know why this rate change was happening, how it affected them, and how they can voice their opinion. I learned how to briefly state only the information the public cared about, answering the who, what, when, where, and why questions.

Canva Manual

I introduced Canva to my office as an easier alternative to Adobe InDesign. I demonstrated how to use it, but wanted to write them a manual the office could reference when I was gone. I think manuals are most helpful when they use screenshots paired with step by step instructions, so I used this strategy while writing my Canva manual. In addition, I provided an FAQ section, and organized everything with an electronic table of contents for easy reference.

"Morgan's Take," The Tyler Times Newsletter

I wrote an article for the State Corporation Commission's newsletter, The Tyler Times about my perspective as an intern of 4 employees who spoke at a workshop. Usually when I write journalistic articles, I'm able to personally interview each individual. This piece broadened my journalistic skills because I had to take notes as they were speaking about their experience with their professional careers.

SUNRNR Blog Post

I wrote a blog post for SUNRNR about their demonstration of a solar powered generator to a group of local middle school children studying renewable energy. I drove out to the demonstration, took pictures, learned about the operation of the solar generator, and interviewed the teacher. With the information gathered, I wrote the piece with the objective to show how involved SUNRNR was with the community. I utilized my journalistic skills to interview and write a blog post that put SUNRNR in a positive light.

SUNRNR Infographic

In conjunction with the blog post about the middle school demonstration, I designed a simple flowchart style infographic showcasing in simple terms the steps it takes for a SUNRNR solar generator to gather energy from the sun to be used for electricity. I designed the infographic with Canva, and used parallel structure for an easy to follow guide to the SUNRNR solar generator.

Catholic Diocese of Richmond Infographic

I designed an infographic from a previously published article from the Catholic Diocese of Richmond - Office of Catholic Education. In this article, the information was all in lengthy bullet points. I took that same information, and made it visual. This infographic increased web traffic on the official Facebook page. This experience taught me the difference visualizing information can make when engaging the target audience.
